Gas Mains Replacement Work – More Delays in South Harrow

Good news? Bad news? According to Harrow Council, a new completion date has been agreed for gas mains work.

The work was due to be completed by February 29th 2012 but this date has now moved to March 16th 2012 after discussions between National Grid and the local authority – that’s more than an additional two weeks.

The project involves replacing 1500m of gas mains in Sudbury Hill and London Road, Harrow. Existing metallic gas mains are being replaced with tough new plastic pipes.

Construction Engineer Mick Lench, explained: “The delay is a result of various factors beyond our control including burst water pipe mains, thefts, a collapsed sanitary sewer, and equipment belonging to other utility companies preventing access to our mains.”

Harrow Council suggest that for more information on the work, you should call National Grid on 0800 096 5678.

In a hat-trick of good planning process, this last week has also seen massive tailbacks along the Northolt Road from just outside South Harrow tube station, all the way back to Petts Hill following some carriageway repairs outside Barclays Bank.
